Legacy voices are former Default voices that do not meet the current quality standard of our Default voice lineup. They will be deprecated on 28 February 2026 and removed from all products after that date.
While we understand this change may be disruptive, we are replacing Legacy voices with new, higher quality Default voices that will remain available in perpetuity.
If you use the API, your existing Legacy voice IDs will automatically route to their replacement Default voice IDs.
While we have replaced Legacy voices with similar voices, the new options may differ slightly in tone and style. We encourage you to explore additional options using these tools:
Voice Design: describe the voice you want to create using our voice design prompt.
Voice remixing: edit an existing voice’s style and tone using our best practices guide.
Instant Voice Clone: clone a voice using as little as 10 seconds of audio.
Professional Voice Clone: create a high fidelity clone of your voice with as little as 10 minutes of audio.
Voice Library: choose from a collection of Professional Voice Clones shared by the ElevenLabs community. You can also search the library using an audio or video clip to find similar voices.
Between now and 28 February 2026, Legacy voices will remain available to users who have previously used them. These users will continue to see and use their Legacy voices until the deprecation date. A reminder email will be sent one month before removal.
Legacy voices will not appear in voice selection menus by default. If you’ve used them before, you can locate them by:
Checking the Recently Used section.
Searching by name and enabling “Show legacy voices” in Voices > Default Voices.
To find the Voice ID for a Legacy voice:
On the website: open Voices > Default Voices, find your voice, then select More actions (three dots) > Copy voice ID.
Via API: send a GET request to the List Voices endpoint with the
show_legacyflag enabled. See the API Reference for full details.
